On Wednesday September 10, 2025, I saw a gruesome video that I will not soon forget. Charlie Kirk saw young people being swept away by destructive ideology. He decided to buttress American youth from being carried off. The notion that young people should eschew friendship, family, and faith appalled him. Unlike most; he decided to act. Founding Turning Point USA and going into the cauldron to offer alternatives. He listened and challenged secondary and collegiate youths. His goal was to convert, not conquer.
I did not know Charlie, like many, I have only heard or viewed snippets of his conversations. What struck me most about yesterday was him smiling, laughing, and engaging with many, moments before the shot rang out. Life is fleeting. After seeing one video in particular, I was skeptical of the notion he was still fighting for his life. Over the last several hours I have consumed more Kirk than the Enterprise crew. Certainly I’m not alone. Even with his millions of followers and thousands of college tours, I would venture more people have heard Charlie in the last 24 hours than in 13 years of Turning Point. Much of what I’ve listened to has given me a greater appreciation for what he spent the bulk of his life doing. I trust his faith was genuine and in Christ alone. John 14:6, 1 Timothy 2:5, and Acts 4:12 (among others) make clear that faith in The Lord Jesus Christ is the only means for reconciliation with God. Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection is the sole method by which mankind can be made right with the Creator God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Charlie Kirk, through Turning Point USA, wanted young people to wake up to traditional conservative values. What I’ve watched of him, makes clear he cared more for their soul than their vote.
America long has been a bastion for political freedom. One of the most vital benefits of the privilege we have as citizens of this country, is the ability to proclaim the Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ. The promise that when we are “absent from the body” we can be “present with the Lord.” No religion can offer this security: “These things I have written unto you, that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW ye have eternal life…” 1 John 5:13. King David said it best when he lost his son: “but now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” 2 Samuel 12:23. As a husband, father, brother, and son I can imagine, but not fathom, the pain of those he left. Take comfort knowing the gunman did not end Charlie.
