Chris Paul has received the moniker “CP3” as if he is an android from a galactic space odyssey, it is actually fitting, but missing important data. Choke Paul’s defeated record remains untarnished. CP3-O, as in: O for his career in winning in the NBA Playoffs, O for ever coming up clutch, O crap I’m blowing another 2-0 series lead, and O my leg hurts. CP3-O is in a class by himself. Highly touted as “the greatest point guard” even sometimes referred to blasphemously as “the point god” has not once, come up clutch in an NBA playoffs. Of course, he’s had a couple big games, including round one vs the Pelicans, but not a clutch performance. The Suns were the best team, best teams are supposed to beat the 8 & 4 seeds.
The media has spent the better part of a year lambasting Ben Simmons for his performance in the 2021 playoffs, this year they’ve focused the derision on James Harden. But for the past 20 NBA seasons, CP3-O has delivered equally atrocious results. At one point in the 3rd quarter of game 7, CP3-O had one point. Harden may not have attempted many second half shots, but at least he had scored double figures in the 1st half. Somehow every year, CP3-O gets a pass. He has been the face of several franchises. Each one elevated in the regular season and believed to be contenders only to collapse post season after post season. New Orleans, Houston, LA, Phoenix. He and Doc Rivers were a match made in Poor Playoff Performance heaven. Year after year the Clippers came up limp, now with the Suns and Sixers respectively the impotence continues.
CP3-O will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball HoF, as the losingest “point god” of all time. Don’t let the yacking parakeets convince you otherwise, Paul choked year after year for an entire career. Put him on your “All-Time” team, and watch as they fail to advance beyond the first round.
